Warriors take Series against Screaming Eagles in Doubleheader Victories

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan swept the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles on Saturday in 10-0 and 9-5 final scores.

The Warriors put up 10 hits in the first game of the afternoon.  Ty King Richards hit his career first home run.  Tanner Glass, Parker Pillsbury and Sean Sutay all doubling during the game.  Pillsbury led the team with three RBIs and DJ Ludwick followed with two.  Southern Wesleyan walked five times with Zach O'Malley walking twice.  Ludwick had Southern Wesleyan's lone stolen base.  Glass started the game for the Warriors, pitching six innings while striking out two.  Aaron Wimpey closed out the game for Southern Wesleyan, striking out one during his one inning on the mound.

Southern Wesleyan had 12 hits in the second game of the afternoon with Tyler Rogers leading the team with three.  Both Rogers and Parker Pillsbury homered, and DJ Ludwick and Tanner Glass both had doubles.  Rogers recorded four of the nine RBIs.  Pillsbury followed with three RBIs.  The Warriors walked four times.  Sean Sutay started the second game, pitching five innings while striking out two batters.  Jake Wisniewski and Aaron Bennett both came in to pitch in relief.

How It Happened

Game One
Southern Wesleyan scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning.  Tyler Rogers was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and then a walk to Zach O'Malley put two on with one out.  Sean Sutay doubled to right field to bring Rogers home.  A singled through the left side by DJ Ludwick allowed both O'Malley and Sutay to come home to give the Warriors a 3-0 run lead.  Ludwick then stole second to get into scoring position.  With two out, Josh Galloway singled to left field to bring Ludwick home to give the Warriors a 4-0 run lead.

The Warriors extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.  With one out, DJ Ludwick reached first on an error and then advanced to second on the play.  Tanner Glass singled to left field to bring Ludwick in to score.  Glass advanced to second on the play.  Josh Galloway was then hit by a pitch to put two runners on with one out and bring Parker Pillsbury up to bat.  Pillsbury singled up the middle to allow Glass to score to extend the Warriors lead to 6-0.

Ty King Richards led off the bottom of the fifth inning by hitting a home run over the left field wall.  Zach O'Malley followed with a walk.  DJ Ludwick singled and then advanced to second on the throw, but O'Malley was called out at third base.  With two out, Tanner Glass was hit by a pitch.  Nolan Steevens then walked to load up the bases.  Parker Pillsbury doubled through the left side to allow both Glass and Ludwick to come in.  A passed ball allowed Steevens to come in to give the Warriors a 10-0 victory.

 
Game Two
Southern Wesleyan struck early in game two of the day.  With one out, Tanner Glass singled to center field.  A single by Josh Galloway to left field allowed Glass to advance to second.  With both Glass and Galloway on base, Parker Pillsbury hit a deep home run over the right field wall to give the Warriors a 3-0 run lead.

Toccoa Falls brought one run in to score in the top of the second, but Southern Wesleyan extended their lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Zach O'Malley singled to first base and then advanced to second on a walk to Nolan SteevensDJ Ludwick doubled to left field to allow O'Malley to come home.  Tanner Glass doubled to left field to allow Steevens to come in, however Ludwick was called out at home right afterwards.  With two out, Parker Pillsbury singled to left center to bring Glass home to give the Warriors a 6-1 run lead.  Dawson Posick followed with a walk to put two on.  Tyler Rogers then homered to right field to bring both Posick and Pillsbury in to score and extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to 9-1.

The Screaming Eagles challenged in the top of the sixth innings, scoring four runs.  However, Aaron Bennett got out of the inning to allow the Warriors to take a 9-4 game two victory.
 

 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next host the Anderson University Trojans on April 20 at 6 p.m.  They will then wrap up their series against the Erskine Flying Fleet on April 21 at 2 and 5 p.m.  The Warriors will wrap up the regular season on April 24 as they host the Bob Jones Bruins at 1 and 4 p.m.
