Coach Schneider says…

"Battling a few injuries and working on a few different things lead to our downfall tonight.  But this game and our next game only help us get ready for conference play.  It helps us realize what else we need to work on before the conference tournament.  Had some good looks and great plays, but just ran out of energy the second half."

How It Happened

The Wolves charged out of the draw, taking the first goal of the game off the stick of Sophie Moore.  They continued to push ahead with goals by Moore, Chloe Wood and Marissa Plumer to give them a 5-0 lead.  The Warriors countered with shots by Kelsey Hawkins, but the Wolves kept them off the board.  Southern Wesleyan would not let up as Amy Pfefferkorn passed the ball over to Jairy Sandoval who put it into the cage to put the Warriors down 6-1.  They continued to cut down on the Newberry lead as both Pfefferkorn and Sandoval scored.  A last minute goal by Hawkins allowed the Warriors to come to 4-6 behind the Wolves at half.

Newberry took the first goal of the second half as Moore put the ball in the cage, but Southern Wesleyan countered as Pfefferkorn scored to keep the Warriors within two goals.  Haylee Cureton scored off a pass from Betsy Bovee to put the Warriors within one and make the score 7-6.  Despite the Wolves scoring again, the Warriors maintained the pressure with back-to-back goals by Tabitha Beecher to tie the game 8-8.  However, the Wolves regained the lead once again seconds later.  Despite goals by Beecher, Newberry took the victory in a 20-10 final.
