Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan swept the Emmanuel Lions in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday evening in 7-3 and 3-2 final scores.
The Warriors collected eight hits in game one with
Savannah Huff and
Emma Collins leading the team with two hits apiece. Both Huff and Collins recorded doubles during the game.
Ashton Martin led the team with three RBIs.
Lydia Clanton,
Addi Johnson and
Claire Ellison all had stolen bases. Martin started game one of the series, pitching 4.1 innings while striking out four batters. Collins came in to pitch in relief, picking up the win while striking out three batters over 2.2 innings pitched.
The Warriors had five hits in game two with
Emma Jo Wolfe leading the team with two hits.
Megan New homered during the game and had the lone RBI. Two Warriors walked, and
Addi Johnson and Wolfe both stole bases. Johnson led the team with two stolen bases in the second game victory.
Megan Vaughn started the second game, striking out two batters over 3.2 innings pitched.
Delanie Laudenbacher pitched in relief and collected the win while recording three strikeouts.

How It Happened
Game One
Southern Wesleyan took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Savannah Huff led off with a single and then advanced to second on a single to left field by
Megan New. With two runners on,
Emma Collins doubled to right center to bring Huff in and put the Warriors ahead 1-0. An error by the Lions' catcher allowed
Addi Johnson to reach first safely and brought New across home plate. Johnson then stole second base to put both runners in scoring position with one out.
Ashton Martin grounded out, but Collins was allowed to score on the play to put Southern Wesleyan ahead 3-0.
Emmanuel countered with runs in the top of the second, third and fifth innings to tie the game up three runs apiece.
The Warriors would not be discouraged as they attacked in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out,
Savannah Huff doubled to right field.
Lydia Clanton followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Clanton stole second to put both her and Huff in scoring position. With two out,
Emma Collins singled through the left side to bring Huff home. A single to the pitcher by
Addi Johnson brought Clanton in to score. With two on,
Ashton Martin singled to score Collings and give the Warriors a 7-3 game one victory.
Game Two
Emmanuel took the lead in the top of the third when Santiago doubled to score Ayers and put the Lions on top 1-0. They extended their lead in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly to put the Lions ahead 2-0.
The Warriors countered in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Megan New led off the inning with a home run over the left field wall to cut the Lions lead in half. With two out,
Addi Johnson singled to center field. Johnson then stole second and then stole third. As the catcher tried to stop her steal of third base, an error allowed Johnson to come home and tie the game 2-2.
Southern Wesleyan took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Lydia Clanton led off with a single up the middle and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Megan New. A sacrifice bunt by
Emma Collins, Clanton moved up to third base. With
Ashton Martin at the plate, a passed ball allowed Clanton to come in and score to give the Warriors a 3-2 victory over the Lions.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on April 7 as they welcome the North Greenville Crusaders to Varsity Field at 3 and 5 p.m. They will then travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on April 9. The Warriors will then travel to Greeneville, TN on April 13 to take on the Tusculum Pioneers.
