Columbia, SC – Southern Wesleyan competed in the Weems Baskin with several personal bests and a new school record.  Not only did the Warriors set a new school record, but Jami Wright ran the fastest time in all Division II in the Women's 200 Meters.


 
How It Happened

Track
100 Meter: The Warriors were led by Kayla Achenbach with a time of 12.40 to put her in 15^th place.  Achenbach was followed by Meshayla Maddox in 30^th with a time of 13.48.

100 Meter Hurdles: In the preliminaries of the 100 meter hurdles, Meshayla Maddox finished in 28^th with a time of 17.20.

200 Meter:  Southern Wesleyan led the way for the Warriors and all of the NCAA Division II in the 200 meters as Jami Wright finished in third with a time of 23.58.  Her time not only shattered the school record, but allowed her to run the fastest time in all of NCAA Division II in the 200 meters.  Behind her, Michele Beugre took 26^th with a time of 25.73.  Kayla Achenbach and Lauryn Tate were the next two Warriors to finish.  Achenbach finished with a time of 26.11 to put her in 35^th, and Tate took 48^th with a time of 26.88.  Carmen DeVries took 52^nd with a time of 27.11, and Blessing Laudermilich followed right behind her in 53^rd with a time of 27.13.  Avrel Jean took 60^th with a time of 29.78.

400 Meter: In the 400 meters, Jami Wright led the Warriors to finish in 9^th with a time of 55.23.  Wright was followed by Michele Beugre in 12^th with a time of 56.31.  Lycia Zavala and Carmen DeVries were the next two Warriors to finish.  Zavala took 29^th with a time of 1:01.05 and DeVries took 32^nd with a time of 1:01.60.  Lauryn Tate followed with a time of 1:02.32 to put her in 34^th.  Keyanna Williams and Blessing Laudermilich were right behind her.  Williams took 36^th with a time of 1:02.69 and Laudermilich finished in 37^th with a time of 102.91.  Avrel Jean wrapped up the field for Southern Wesleyan as she finished in 42^nd with a time of 1:17.98.

400 Meter Hurdles: In the 400 meter hurdles, Keyanna Williams finished in 16^th with a time of 1:08.31.

800 Meter: In the 800 meter, Lycia Zavala took 17^th with a time of 2:29.72.  Zavala was followed by Taylor Broadwell in 21^st with a time of 2:35.90.

1500 Meter: Taylor Broadwell finished in 16^th in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:14.89.

3000 Meter Steeplechase: Abbey Frock took first in the 3000 meter steeplechase as she finished with a time of 12:46.61.

4x300 Meter Relay: In the 4x300 meter relay, the team of Carrie Barton, Michele Beugre, Jami Wright and Lauryn Tate finished in fifth with a time of 2:48.69.  They were followed by the second Southern Wesleyan team that consisted of Keyanna Williams, Lycia Zavala, Carmen Devries and Kayla Achenbach.  The second team took sixth with a time of 2:53.36.

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next host in the Gotta Run Invite at the Joe R Gilbert Track and Field Complex in Central, SC on April 3.  They will then travel to the Gamecock Invitational on April 10.  The Warriors will remain on the road as they travel to the USC Open on April 17.
