Warriors Drop Non-Conference Match to Indians

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Catawba Indians in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon in a 5-2 final.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan took one of the two doubles match-ups of the afternoon.  Anya King and Ameek Batth battled against Una Pandurevic and Vicky Berdsley, defeating them 6-2.  Noemi Aguirre and Camille Cunninghm fought hard against Merionne Hunt and Carolina Correia, however they fell in a 7-5 final.

In singles play, Ameek Batth led the Warriors to their first victory of the afternoon.  Batth faced Pandurevic, and defeated her in 6-1 and 6-2 finals cores.  Maria Aspasia Kotsiou claimed the second victory for the Warrior.  After dropping the first set 6-0, Aspasia Kotsiou fought back to win the next two in 6-3 and 6-4 finals.  Natalie White challenged her singles match against Correia.  After dropping the first 6-2, she won the second 6-2 before dropping the third 6-1.

 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Mount Olive, NC on March 19 as they face the University of Mount Olive Trojans in Conference Carolinas action.  They will remain on the road on March 20 as they face the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 1:30 p.m.  The Warriors will then return to the Rev Leroy C Cox Tennis Complex on March 26 and 27 to take on the Chowan Hawks and Barton Bulldogs.
