Warriors Fall to Crusaders

Tigerville, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the #7 North Greenville Crusaders in the Saturday double header in 25-1 and 10-3 final scores.

The Warriors recorded five hits in the first game of the afternoon.  Both Zach O'Malley and Dawson Posick doubled during the game. Josh Galloway was the lone Warrior to collect a walk, and Ty King Richards recorded a stolen base.  Aaron Bennett started game one for the Warriors, collecting four strikeouts over 3.2 innings. 

Southern Wesleyan collected nine hits in the second game of the afternoon.  Tanner Glass and Sawyer Price led the team with two hits apiece, and Dawson Posick hit his second home run of the season.  Ty King Richards and Posick had the lone RBIs.  Two Warriors walked, Sean Sutay stole a base and Dawson Gilstrap was hit by a pitch.  Devyn Bond started game two for Southern Wesleyan, striking out four batters over 3.2 innings of work.  TJ McEvilly and Josh Henshaw came in to pitch in relief, combining for six strikeouts.

How It Happened

Game One
North Greenville went on the offensive early in the first game of the series, as they brought in three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead.  Trailing by four in the top of the fourth inning, the Warriors challenged as Ty King Richards got into scoring position, but the Crusaders struck out the side to keep Southern Wesleyan from cutting into their lead. 

North Greenville did not let up the attack as they scored six more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-0 advantage over Southern Wesleyan.  The Warriors would not relent on the base pads as Dawson Posick doubled and Chance Fogel singled in the top of the fifth, but neither were able to come in to score as the Crusaders defense kept the Warriors from coming home.

The Crusaders continued to push ahead.  The Warriors plated their first and only run in the top of the seventh.  With one out, Zach O'Malley doubled to right center and then advanced to third and then scored on a wild pitch.  However, North Greenville shut out the side to give them a 25-1 game one victory.

 
Game Two
North Greenville brought in the first run of game two as a single by West brought Angeli in to score to put them on top 1-0.  Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the third inning.  Sawyer Price led off with a single to left field and then advanced to second on a single by Sean Sutay.  With two runners on, Chance Fogel reached on a fielder's choice that took Sutay off second base.  A fielder's choice by Ty King Richards allowed Price to come in and tie the game 1-1.

The Crusaders brought six more runs in to score in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Trailing 8-1, the Warriors continued to fight in the top of the seventh inning.  A dropped third strike and wild pitch allowed Sean Sutay to reach first.  Sutay then stole second base to get into scoring position.  Chance Fogel followed with a walk.  With two on, Ty King Richards singled up the middle to load up the bases.With two out, a wild pitch brought Sutay home and put the Warriors down 8-2.

Despite a home run over the left field wall by Dawson Posick in the top of the eighth inning, the Warriors fell to the Crusaders 10-3.


 
What's Next

The Warriors will wrap up the series against North Greenville on March 16 at 6 p.m.  They will then return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on March 19-21 as they host the Emmanuel College Lions.  The Warriors will remain at home on March 26-27 as the host the Erskine Flying Fleet.
