Warriors Fall to Hawks

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped game two of the series against the Chowan Hawks on Saturday in an 82-41 final score.

Brooke Henricks led the Warriors with 14 points in the loss.  Henricks was followed by Lonesha Lee with six points.  The Warriors had five assists during the game with Halee Morrison leading the team with two.  Tristen Berry had the lone block of the afternoon and Henricks led the team with four steals.  Henricks recorded five of the 21 rebounds.  She was followed by Caroline Reese with four.

How It Happened

Chowan charged out of the gates, going on an 8-0 run before a layup in the paint by Diamond Ellison allowed the Warriors to get on the board.  Amy Soumare passed the ball to Caroline Reese who put it in the basket from beyond the three point line to put Southern Wesleyan within three, however the Hawks regained a five point lead on a layup by Jahkeria Bagby.  The Warriors continued to challenge on baskets by Lonesha Lee and Halee Morrison.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second quarter with a layup by Lee.  A layup by Henricks allowed the Warriors to come to 24-13 behind Chowan with just under eight minutes left to play in the second quarter.  Southern Wesleyan remained within 11-points of Chowan on baskets by Amy Soumare and Henricks.  Chowan continued to pull ahead as Destiny Robinson made a layup at the buzzer to put the Hawks on top 40-20 at halftime.

The Warriors took the first point of the third quarter on a free throw by Soumare, however the Hawks countered with a jump shot by Aniah Patterson.  Chowan pushed their lead further on baskets by Demetria Bland and Destiny Robinson.  Morrison passed the ball to Henricks who laid the ball up to put the Warriors behind the Hawks 55-25.

Chowan kicked off the final quarter of play with a layup by Destiny Robinson.  Sasha Schoenborn collected a defensive rebound and took the ball back up the court before sinking a three point shot to put the Warriors down 67-31.  Despite a last second layup by Morrison, the Warriors fell to the Chowan Hawks 82-41.
 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Franklin Springs, GA to take on the Emmanuel Lions on February 9 at 5 p.m.  They will remain on the road on February 11 to take on the North Greenville Crusaders at 5 p.m.  The Warriors will then welcome the North Greenville Crusaders to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 13 at 2 p.m.
