Coach Davis says…

"We competed for a longer period tonight.  It was good to be in a position in the third quarter to win a game, but we missed on a few defensive assignments that Chowan capitalized on and we could not recover."

How It Happened

The Hawks took an early lead on back-to-back jump shots by Destiny Robinson.  The Warriors countered with a layup by Amy Soumare, however Chowan pulled ahead on a three point shot by Aniah Patterson to put them up by seven.  Diamond Ellison sunk a jump shot in the paint to put the Warriors down 15-6.

Chowan continued to extend their lead on free throws by Robinson, but Southern Wesleyan countered on a layup by Ellison to put the Warriors down 22-8.  The Warriors continued to chip away as Brooke Henricks and Soumare made free throw baskets to put them within fourteen points.  Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge Chowan with layups by Henricks and Tristen Berry to come to 26-16 behind the Hawks.  At the half, the Warriors trailed the Hawks 29-21.

The Hawks kicked off the third quarter with a free throw by Demetria Bland, but the Warriors countered with a layup by Lonesha Lee.  Southern Wesleyan came within five after a series of fouls  on the Hawks allowed Henricks, Berry and Lee to take free throws and make the score 36-31.  Layups by Lee and Soumare put the Warriors within three, but back-to-back threes by Bland put the Hawks ahead by eleven.

Kaylah Henderson kicked off the final quarter of play for the Hawks with a layup to give Chowan a 57-36 point advantage.  The Hawks continued to distance themselves, but jump shots by Lee and Berry allowed the Warriors to come to 65-41 behind Chowan.  Despite a late 3-pointer by Caroline Reese, Chowan went on to win the game 76-45.
