Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in game one of the weekend series against the Chowan Hawks in a 76-45 final score on Friday evening.
The Warriors shot 35.6% from the field and went 63.2% at the free throw line.
Brooke Henricks led the team with 12 points. She was followed by
Lonesha Lee with 10 and
Tristen Berry with nine. Henricks led the team with three of the six assists. The Warriors recorded 10 steals during the game. Henricks led the team with five rebounds. She was followed by Lee and
Amy Soumare with four.

"We competed for a longer period tonight. It was good to be in a position in the third quarter to win a game, but we missed on a few defensive assignments that Chowan capitalized on and we could not recover."
How It Happened
The Hawks took an early lead on back-to-back jump shots by Destiny Robinson. The Warriors countered with a layup by
Amy Soumare, however Chowan pulled ahead on a three point shot by Aniah Patterson to put them up by seven.
Diamond Ellison sunk a jump shot in the paint to put the Warriors down 15-6.
Chowan continued to extend their lead on free throws by Robinson, but Southern Wesleyan countered on a layup by Ellison to put the Warriors down 22-8. The Warriors continued to chip away as
Brooke Henricks and Soumare made free throw baskets to put them within fourteen points. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge Chowan with layups by Henricks and
Tristen Berry to come to 26-16 behind the Hawks. At the half, the Warriors trailed the Hawks 29-21.
The Hawks kicked off the third quarter with a free throw by Demetria Bland, but the Warriors countered with a layup by
Lonesha Lee. Southern Wesleyan came within five after a series of fouls on the Hawks allowed Henricks, Berry and Lee to take free throws and make the score 36-31. Layups by Lee and Soumare put the Warriors within three, but back-to-back threes by Bland put the Hawks ahead by eleven.
Kaylah Henderson kicked off the final quarter of play for the Hawks with a layup to give Chowan a 57-36 point advantage. The Hawks continued to distance themselves, but jump shots by Lee and Berry allowed the Warriors to come to 65-41 behind Chowan. Despite a late 3-pointer by
Caroline Reese, Chowan went on to win the game 76-45.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the series against the Chowan Hawks on February 6 at 2 p.m. They will then travel to Franklin Springs, GA on February 9 as they take on the Emmanuel Lions at 5 p.m. The Warriors will remain on the road on February 11 as they travel to Tigerville, SC to face the North Greenville Crusaders.
