Coach Schneider says…
"Every game we have played has been a different line-up for various reasons. But today, the entire team was able to play. We have been working on all being on the same page offensively and defensively. Today we were UNITED and worked well together. Defense applied the concepts we had worked on all week. Offense was able to space and see cuts. It was great to see so many players score and get assists."
How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck early as
Tabitha Beecher scored five minutes into the game to put the Warriors on top 1-0. The Warriors continued to push ahead as Beecher and
Jocelyn Cosgrove scored within seconds of each other to give them a 3-0 advantage. Chowan countered with a free positon goal, but Southern Wesleyan would not be discouraged.
Jesse Soles put up her career first goal with just over twenty minutes remaining in the first half of play. A foul in the eight meter allowed
Amy Pfefferkorn to take a free positon shot and score her first goal of the afternoon to give the Warriors a 5-1 goal lead. The Hawks attacked the net, but
Kaeleigh McDaniel and the Warriors defense kept them from putting more goals on the board. Leia Cabradillia allowed the Hawks to come within three, but the Warriors regained their four goal advantage shortly after as Beecher put in her third goal of the game. Southern Wesleyan continued to attack the cage as Pfferkorn, Beecher and Cosgrove scored four more times to put the Warriors on top 10-2 at halftime.
Southern Wesleyan continued the attack in the second half as Beecher, Pfefferkorn and
Kelsey Hawkins put up shots, but Mallory Dunker saved the ball from meeting the back of the cage. However, the Warriors attempts paid off as Hawkins passed the ball to Cosgrove who put it into the net to extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to 11-2. The Warriors maintained the attack as
Betsy Bovee drilled the ball into the cage to give the Warriors a ten goal advantage and make it a running clock game. Beecher struck again, scoring her fifth goal of the game with just over twenty-two minutes left in the second half. With the clock running,
Yael Echeverria scored her first career goal for the Warriors off a free position shot to put the score at 14-2. Cosgrove followed seconds later with a goal of her own. The Warriors continued the attack as Cosgrove passed the ball over to Pfefferkorn who flipped the ball behind her back into the game to put the Warriors up 16-2. Chowan put two more goals into the cage, but a last second goal by Pfefferkorn allowed the Warriors to walk away with their first win of the season 17-4.
