How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan struck early as Amy Pfefferkorn passed the ball up to Tabitha Beecher who put it into the cage after just over three minute of play and put the Warriors on top 1-0.  The Warriors continued to attack the cage with shots by Kelsey Hawkins and Yael Echeverria, however the Crusaders blocked their attacks.  Southern Wesleyan did not let up as Betsy Bovee scored the second goal of the game to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage.  North Greenville continued to fight, scoring four straight goals to give them a 4-2 goal lead with just over sixteen minutes left to play.  Beecher received the ball from Jocelyn Cosgrove and drilled it into the cage to keep the Warriors within one.  A free position goal by Rachel Kellogg put North Greenville back on top by two.  The Warriors would not relent as Beecher scored her third goal of the game to trail the Crusaders 5-4.  North Greenville continued to push ahead as they scored four more goals before Pfefferkorn put the ball into the cage to put the Warriors down 9-5 at half.

North Greenville took the first goal of the second half on a free position goal by Kellogg to give the Crusaders a five goal lead.  However, the Warriors attacked quickly as Pfferkorn, Kelsey Hawkins and Cosgrove scored three consecutive goals for Southern Wesleyan to put them within two of North Greenville.  North Greenville countered with a shot by Kellogg, but Southern Wesleyan's defense and Kaeleigh McDaniel protected the cage.  A free position goal by Pfefferkorn allowed Southern Wesleyan to get back within one.  North Greenville intensified their attacks, scoring seven consecutive goals before Bovee put the ball into the cage to keep Southern Wesleyan within seven.  Despite several late attacks, North Greenville went on to win the game in a 21-10 final score.
