Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the first game of the season to the Bob Jones Bruins in 2-0 final score.
The Warriors took 17 shots in the loss to the Bruins.
Bryanna Pickens led the team with seven shots while
Ashley Allen followed with five. Southern Wesleyan had three shots on goal during the game.
Taylor Hanzel started the game in goal for the Warriors, collecting two saves.
Samantha Benner played in goal during the second half and recorded two saves.

How It Happened
Bob Jones took the first shot as Mia Marks drove the ball toward the net, but it did not meet the net. The Warriors attacked the net as
Bryanna Pickens sent the ball toward the goal, but the Bruins got in the way of the attack to keep the Warriors off the board. Bob Jones continued their attack, but
Taylor Hanzel and the Warriors defense kept the Bruins from taking the lead.
Molly Wanning and Pickens attacked the net, but Susanna Hutson saved the ball from the back of the net. Bob Jones continued to persist as Kayle Stevenson scored the first goal of the game for the Bruins. They extended their lead minutes later as Gabriela Gonzalez scored to give Bob Jones a 2-0 goal advantage. Shots by
Ashley Allen and Brooke Pickens did not pay off for the Warriors as they still trailed at half.
Southern Wesleyan charged out of the gate as Wanning and Pickens drilled the ball toward the back of the net, however Hutson and the Bruins kept the Warriors from tying the game. The Bruins countered, attempting to push their lead further, but
Samantha Benner saved the ball from the back of the net to thwart their attempts. Allen, Pickens and
Hayleigh Von Ins each collected the ball and sent it to the net, but none were able to cut into the Bob Jones lead. Korbyn Griffith took a shot on the goal, but Benner continued to save the ball from the net. Despite late shots by
Brooke Cash and Allen, the Warriors were unable to take the season opener as they fell to the Bruins 2-0.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next host the University of Mount Olive Trojans on February 28 as they take on the Trojans at 1 p.m. They will then travel to Murfreesboro, NC as they take on the Chowan Hawks on March 7 at noon. The Warriors will return to Childs Field on March 14 to host the Erskine Flying Fleet at 2 p.m.
