Warriors Soar Around Flying Fleet to Victory

Due West, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Erskine Flying Fleet on Monday evening in an 89-72 final score.
 
The Warriors shot 55.4% from the field and went 48.3% from beyond the three point line.  Six Warriors recorded double digits in the victory with Hunter Davis leading the team with 17.  Jalen Lowery and Demarcus Addie followed with 16 points each.  Southern Wesleyan had 20 assists with Ta'Jay Dunlap leading the team with five.
 
Southern Wesleyan had 39 rebounds during the game with Davis leading the team with 10 to give him a double-double during the game.  Tranard Ferrell recorded the lone block of the game for the Warriors.  The Warriors had six steals with Dunlap leading the team with three.

How It Happened
 
The Flying Fleet soared ahead early on back-to-back three point shots before a jump shot by Demarcus Addie put the Warriors on the board.  Erskine continued to push ahead, but Southern Wesleyan challenged right back with a three pointer by Jalen Lowery to come to 5-11 behind the Flying Fleet.  Back-to-back three pointers by Addie and Arusha Hunter put the Warriors within five points of the Fleet.  Erskine continued to push ahead as Travis Walters laid the ball up to put them ahead by nine.  Free throws by Addie and Hunter Davis allowed Southern Wesleyan to come to 15-20 behind Erskine.  Southern Wesleyan continued to counter the Erskine offense, with layups by Ta'Jay Dunlap and Arusha Hunter to put them down by three, and then a 3-pointer by Lowery allowed the Warriors to tie the game up 23-23.  Dunlap sunk a three from the corner to put the Warriors lead at 33-28.  Seconds later, Jacob Smith passed the ball up to Davis who laid the ball up to put Southern Wesleyan on top by five points.  However, the Flying Fleet continued to challenge the Warriors on the court, tying the game up at 35 on a jump shot by Sterling Benjamin with just over five minutes left in the first half.  A late three pointer by Hunter and free throw by Lowery allowed the Warriors to take a 44-40 point lead at the half.
 
Erskine took the first points of the second half on a layup by Travis Walters, but Southern Wesleyan countered with a three pointer by Lowery to put the Warriors ahead 49-44.  Southern Wesleyan distanced themselves further on a layup by Davis.  Free throw baskets by Dunlap and Davis allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to 55-46.  With just under sixteen minutes remaining, Dunlap passed the ball up to Addie who put it into the net from beyond the three point line to put Southern Wesleyan on top by eleven points.  Justin Morton put up a jump shot for Erskine, but the Warriors regained their 11-point lead on a layup by Davis to put the score at 60-49.  Tranard Ferrell made a layup and 3-point shot to extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to 65-54.  The Warriors pushed their lead to twenty points on a three point shot by Jacob Smith with ten minutes remaining in the second half of the game.  Southern Wesleyan continued to shut down Erskine's defense as Davis made back-to-back lay-ups to extend the Warriors lead to 84-58, however the Flying Fleet countered with a three pointer of their own as Emandi Brooks put the ball into the net.  Erskine countered with a three pointer of their own, but Southern Wesleyan went on to win the game in an 89-72 final score.
 
 
What's Next
 
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 23 as they travel to Franklin Springs, GA to take on the Emmanuel Lions at 4 p.m.  They will then close out the regular season on February 25 as they welcome the Erskine Flying Fleet to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
