Warriors Drop Season Opener to Trojans

Anderson, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in their season opener to the Anderson Trojans in a 10-6 final score on Wednesday evening.
 
The Warriors recorded nine hits in the loss to the Trojans.  Ty King Richards and Sawyer Price led the team with two hits apiece.  Both Josh Galloway and Tanner Glass doubled during the game, and DJ Ludwick had a triple.  Galloway recorded two of the six RBIs.  Southern Wesleyan walked four times with Tyler Rogers picking up two walks during the game.
 
Southern Wesleyan had six pitchers take the mound during the game.  Aaron Bennett started the game for the Warriors, striking out one batter over two innings pitched.  Devyn Bond led the Warriors with two of the four strikeouts.

How It Happened
 
Southern Wesleyan took the lead early in the first game of the season.  In the top of the third inning, Angelo Pahila reached first on an error and then advanced to second on a passed ball.  With one out, DJ Ludwick tripled to right field to bring Pahila in to score and put the Warriors ahead 1-0.  Josh Galloway followed with a ground out to third base that allowed Ludwick to cross home plate.
 
The Warriors advanced their lead in the top of the fourth inning.  Parker Pillsbury led off the inning by being hit by a pitch.  With Pillsbury on first, Dawson Posick singled and then advanced to second on the throw.  With two runners in scoring position, Tyler Rogers grounded out to bring Pillsbury home.  Sawyer Price followed with a single up the middle to score Posick and give Southern Wesleyan a 4-0 lead.
 
Josh Galloway led off the fifth inning with a double to left field and then came in to score as Tanner Glass doubled down the field line to put the Warriors ahead 5-0.  Anderson countered in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating four runs to put them behind the Warriors 5-4.
 
Southern Wesleyan maintained the pressure, loading up the bases in the top of the sixth inning.  With the bases loaded, Galloway was hit by a pitch to give the Warriors a 6-4 run advantage.
 
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Trojans attacked the plate.  A double by Shaw brought in two runs to tie the game, and then a triple by Castleberry put Anderson on top 9-6.  Anderson went on to bring in one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning, winning the game in a 10-6 final.
 
 
What's Next
 
Southern Wesleyan will open up Conference Carolinas action on February 19-21 as they take on the King Tornado.  They will then welcome the University of Mount Olive Trojans to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on February 26 and 27.  They will then travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on March 5 and 6.
