Lee, Henricks Post Double Digits in Loss to Crusaders

Tigerville, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the first game of the two game series against the North Greenville Crusaders on Thursday evening in a 75-50 final score.

The Warriors shot 34.7% from the field in the loss to the Crusaders.  Lonesha Lee led the team with 17 points, with Brooke Henricks following with 14 points.  Henricks and Tristen Berry each recorded four assists apiece. 

The Warriors had 23 rebounds during the game with Henricks and Halee Morrison each recording five apiece.  Henricks and Caroline Reese had the lone blocks of the game for Southern Wesleyan.  The Warriors collected 13 steals during the game with both Lee and Henricks boasting three apiece.  Sasha Schoenborn and Reese followed with two steals each.

How It Happened

North Greenville took a 5-0 lead within the first two minutes of play on a layup by Savannah Hughes and three point shot by Haylee Luttrell.  However, free throw baskets by Brooke Henricks allowed the Warriors to get on the board.  A layup by Halee Morrison put the Warriors down by one, but a second 3-pointer by Luttrell allowed the Crusaers to push ahead 8-4.  The Warriors continued to challenge with a 3-pointer by Lonesha Lee and jump shot by Diamond Ellison.

Jayda Glass laid the ball up to put the Crusaders on top 23-10.  However, Southern Wesleyan chipped away with back-to-back layups by Morrison.  The Warriors stole the ball away from the Crusaders and Tristen Berry tipped the ball up to Henricks who sunk it from beyond the three point line to put the Warriors within ten points.  North Greenville continued to push ahead, taking a 44-21 point lead going into halftime.

Southern Wesleyan took the first point of the third quarter as Henricks made a free throw, but North Greenville countered with a 3-pointer by Luttrell.  The Warriors continued to chip away with a layup by Henricks, however a 3-point shot by Savannah Hughes put the Crusaders on top 55-24.  Henricks passed the ball under the net to Lee, who laid it up to put Southern Wesleyan behind North Greenville 33-65.

North Greenville struck early in the final quarter of play with a three pointer by Luttrell, but Southern Wesleyan quickly countered with a 3-pointer of their own by Caroline Reese to put them down 37-68.  A jump shot by Morrison and a deep three pointer by Lee put the score at 43-75.  The Warriors put up free throw baskets by Essence Sims with just over one minute left to play, but the Crusaders took a 50-75 point victory.

 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to History Tysinger Gymnasium on February 13 as they welcome the North Greenville Crusaders to Central, SC at 2 p.m.  They will remain at home on February 16 as they take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats at 5 p.m.  The Warriors will then travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkyries on February 18.
