Southern Wesleyan Drops Game to North Greenville

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the North Greenville in game two of the week competition against the Crusaders in an 84-50 final score.

The Warriors shot 32.8% from the field and went 66.7% from the free throw line in the loss to the Crusaders.  Halee Morrison and Caroline Reese led the team with 13 points apiece.  The Warriors had four assists during the game.  Southern Wesleyan collected 27 rebounds with Sasha Schoenborn leading the team with six.  Tristen Berry had the lone block of the game and Lonesha Lee led the team with two of the five steals.

How It Happened

North Greenville took the first points of the game on a layup by Savannah Hughes, but the Warriors countered on a jump shot by Halee Morrison in the paint to tie the game.  The Crusaders continued to push ahead with 3-pointer by Journey Muhammad, giving them a 9-2 point advantage.  Caroline Reese made a three pointer to put the Warriors within ten points of the Crusaders.

A jump shot by Tolisha Walker put North Greenville on top 24-9, but a jump shot by Reese kept the Warriors within thirteen points.  Reese sunk another three pointer to put the Warriors down 28-14.  The Crusaders pushed further ahead on a 3-point basket by Jayda Glass and layup by Kelby Lyles.  Diamond Ellison laid the ball up in the paint and Essence Sims made free throws, but the Warriors trailed 51-23 at half.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the third quarter with a layup by Lonesha Lee in the paint.  Back-to-back baskets by Sasha Schoenborn and Morrison put the Warriors down 53-29.  North Greenville continued to push ahead with layups by Savannah Hughes and Jykya Bell.  A fast break layup by Tristen Berry put the Warriors down 70-40 at the end of the third quarter.

Ellison kicked off the fourth quarter with a layup in the paint, but the Crusaders countered as Hughes stole the ball away and laid it up to put North Greenville's lead at 72-42.  Berry sunk a three pointer with just over three minutes left in the game.  North Greenville went on to win the game in an 84-50 final score.
 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on February 16 as they take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats at 5 p.m.  They will then travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkyries.  They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 20 at 2 p.m. as they welcome the Barton Bulldogs to Central, SC.
