Coach Davis says...

"Tough loss tonight for the team.  Our execution on the offensive end was not consistent.  I have to put us in a better position to be comfortable and seamless in what we do on both ends."

How It Happened

The Warriors charged out of the gate early on a three point basket by Brittany Mack.  However, the Valkyries quickly countered on a three pointer by Alisa Davenport to tie the game right back up.  Converse pushed ahead as a layup by Sydney Wilson gave them a one point advantage, but Southern Wesleyan countered with a layup off a fast break by Tristen Berry to put them on top 6-5.  Back-to-back layups by Mack and Nakia Hooks allowed the Warriors to maintain a one point lead with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter.

Lonesha Lee kicked off the second quarter with a jump shot to allow the Warriors to put the game in a 12-12 tie.  Shortly afterwards, Brooke Henricks put up a jump shot in the paint to put Southern Wesleyan ahead by two.  However, the lead was short lived as Lindsey Hardin laid the ball up for the Valkryies to allow them to tie the game.  Caroline Reese collected a pass from Lee and stepped beyond the arc to knock down a three pointer to give the Warriors a 17-14 point advantage with just under seven minutes left in the half.  Southern Wesleyan picked-up the intensity as a three pointer by Shelby Glance gave the Warriors a six point advantage.  Back-to-back three pointers by Tristen Berry and Reese allow the Warriors to extend their lead to ten points with just over a minute to play.  Southern Wesleyan went on to lead 33-25 at halftime.

Converse challenged early in the third quarter as Sydney Wilson made a jump shot to put the Valkyries within six.  The Valkyries continue to chip away, but a layup by Kayla Garrett allowed the Warriors to stay on top by six.  However, Converse was able to tie the game up on free throws by Eva Carballo and Wilson.  The Valkyries continued to shut down the Warriors offense and extend their lead to four points on a jump shot by Lindsey Hardin.  Southern Wesleyan countered with a layup by Nakia Hooks to put them down 37-41.  Despite a late three point by Sasha Schoenborn, the Warriors trailed 43-50 at the end of the third quarter.

The Valkyries took a ten point lead on a three by Lindsey Hardin, but the Warriors countered with a three off the hands of Brittany Mack to put them back within seven.  Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away at Converse's lead on a lay-up by Kayla Garrett.  The Warriors would not let up as Brittany Mack scored from beyond the arc and then Nakia Hooks made a jump shot to tie the game 57-57.  However, the Valkyries went on to win the game 63-58.
