Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the King Tornado on Saturday afternoon in a 70-60 final score.
The Warriors shot 33.3% from the field and were 37.5% from beyond the arc in the loss to the Tornado. Both
Brittany Mack and
Tristen Berry each scored 11 points for Southern, with
Lonesha Lee following them with ten points. Mack went on to lead the team with four of the 12 assists of the game. She was followed by
Nakia Hooks and
Shelby Glance with two assists each.
Defensively, the Warriors collected 39 rebounds.
Shelby Glance led the team with 13 rebounds, 11 of which came defensively. Glance continued to impress as she collected both of Southern Wesleyan's two blocks. Southern Wesleyan had five steals with
Tristen Berry leading the team with two.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck first as
Tristen Berry took a pass from
Shelby Glance and sunk the ball from beyond the arc to give them a 3-0 point lead. They continued to push ahead as Berry drove the ball to the net a second time. The Warriors pushed ahead to a seven point advantage before Brianna Dunbar drove to the ball to the net and laid it up to put the Tornado down 7-2. Southern Wesleyan maintained their five point advantage on a layup by
Brittany Mack. King fought back as Jhayda McKinney sunk a jump shot to put the Tornado within one point of the Warriors. The Tornado took the lead on a three pointer by McKinney, but Southern Wesleyan countered with a jump shot by
Allie Newberry to tie the game 11-11. The Tornado would not let down their attacks as Ryleigh Fritz laid the ball up to put King back ahead by two. King took a 20-14 point lead on a jump shot by McKinney, but Southern Wesleyan challenged back with a layup by Mack. With less than a minute left in the first quarter,
Caroline Reese sunk the ball in from beyond the arc to put the Warriors within one. Mack collected a rebound and then drove to the net to lay the ball up to put the Warriors ahead 21-20. However, Ryleigh Fritz sunk a three from deep to put the Tornado on top 25-23.
The Tornado continued to push ahead as they took the first points of the second quarter on a layup by Madison Worley to give King a 27-23 point advantage. King pushed their lead further ahead as Alexa Gramann laid the ball up to give the Tornado a five point lead. Southern Wesleyan fought back with under five minutes left in the second quarter as
Nakia Hooks took a pass from
Brittany Mack and drove it to the net for a layup to put Warriors down 27-29. The Tornado push ahead, but a layup by
Sasha Schoenborn kept the Warriors within one. A layup by
Shelby Glance allowed the Warriors to take the lead 31-30. However, back-to-back baskets by Madison Worley and Ashley Allen to put King up 38-32 with just over a minute left in the second quarter. A step back three point shot by
Caroline Reese put the Warriors down 37-40 at the end of the second quarter.
Southern Wesleyan attacked early in the third quarter as
Nakia Hooks passed the ball over to
Tristen Berry who stepped beyond the arc to sink a three point shot to allow the Warriors to tie the game. King countered with a layup by Ryleigh Fritz, but Berry sunk a second three point shot to give Southern Wesleyan a 43-42 point lead. However, the Tornado would not let down their attacks as Fritz laid the ball up a second time to put King back on top. King would not let up, regaining a five point advantage on back-to-back layups by Brianna Dunbar and Fritz. A foul in the paint allowed
Jamyah Montissol to come to the free throw line, sinking both her free throw baskets to put the Warriors back within three of the Tornado. King pushed ahead with a three pointer by Desiree Bates to give the Tornado a 9-point lead.
Lonesha Lee laid the ball up to put the Warriors back within eleven of the Tornado.
King jumped off in the final quarter of play on a driving layup by Desiree Bates to put them on top 64-51. However,
Caroline Reese passed the ball over to
Lonesha Lee, who sunk the ball from beyond the arc to put them down 54-64. A second three by Lee allowed the Warriors to come back within nine points of the Tornado. King continued to push their lead further on a driving layup by Alexa Gramann, but the Warriors countered as
Caroline Reese sunk her third three pointer of the afternoon to put the Warriors down ten with just under three minutes left in the final quarter. However, the Tornado went on to win the game in a 70-60 final.
What's Next
The Warriors will remain on the road on December 15 as they travel to Due West, SC to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet at 5 p.m. They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on December 18 as they host the Francis Marion Patriots at 2 p.m. The Warriors will remain at home on December 20 as they host the Barton Bulldogs at noon. Southern Wesleyan will then break for the Holiday season before returning to the court on December 31 and January 1 to take on both Western Carolina and Furman in exhibition play.
