Coach Davis says…

"A tough road win tonight.  Glad to see us step up and make the plays we needed, but our level of consistency in our play has to improve.  We stayed together each time Erskine made their runs on us.  Looking forward to our preparation for Francis Marion on Saturday."

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan charged out of the gate as Lonesha Lee passed the ball over to Shelby Glance who buried the ball into the net from beyond the arc to put the Warriors on top 3-0.  The Flying Fleet countered minutes later as Shanece Mitchel laid the ball up to cut the Warriors lead to one.  Glance sunk a second three pointer to extend the Warriors lead to 6-2.  A layup by Nakia Hooks put the Warriors lead to six points.  Southern Wesleyan would not let up their offensive as Brittany Mack sunk a ball from beyond the arc to give the Warriors an 11-2 point lead with just under five minutes left in the quarter.  After shutting the Flying Fleet down for six minutes, Megan Jones laid the ball up to put Erskine down 16-4.

Erskine kicked off the second quarter with a driving layup by Anzya Cook to cut Southern Wesleyan's lead to ten points.  The Flying Fleet continued to chip away at the Warriors lead as Amaya Richardson sunk a three pointer.  However, the Warriors countered on a layup by Shelby Glance to give them a 20-11 point advantage.  Erskine would not let up their attacks as both Richardson and Cook knocked down three point shots to put them within four points.  However, Southern Wesleyan countered on a jump shot by Caroline Reese to put the Warriors on top 24-18 with just over five minutes remaining in the quarter.  Erskine took the lead on a three-point basket by Shanece Mitchell.  The lead was short lived as Brittany Mack passed the ball up to Nakia Hooks who laid it up with twenty-five seconds left to tie the game 26-26 right at halftime.

A foul against the Flying Fleet to kick off the third quarter allowed Lonesha Lee to take free throws.  She sunk both to put the Warriors back on top by two.  However, Erskine countered seconds later on a layup by Shanece Mitchell to tie the game back up 28-28.  The Warriors regained the lead as point guard Brittany Mack passed the ball over to Kayla Garrett who sunk a jump shot in the paint.  Southern Wesleyan picked up the intensity as Brooke Henricks fired a shot off from above the arc to extend the Warriors lead to 35-28.  Erskine maintained the pressure as Anzya Cook cut the Warriors lead to seven points on a pull up jump shot, but the Warriors would not let up their intensity as a layup by Tristen Berry allowed the Warriors to take a 10-point lead.  Sasha Schoenborn passed the ball over to Jamyah Montissol who laid it up into the basket to put the Warriors on top 47-34 to wrap up the third quarter of play.

Erskine took the first bucket of the final quarter on a layup by Shanece Mitchell.  The Flying Fleet would not let up their attack as a three point basket by Mariah Corry allowed Erskine to cut Southern Wesleyan's lead to 47-41.  The Warriors continued to fight as Caroline Reese sunk a jump shot just shy of the three point line to regain Southern Wesleyan's eight point advantage over Erskine with just under six minutes left in the game.  A three pointer by Ianna Odulaja allowed the Flying Fleet to come within one and then a made free throw basket by Amaya Richardson allowed Erskine to tie the game up 50-50.  Tristen Berry and Brittany Mack each made free throws to put the Warriors on top 53-50.  However, Richardson sunk a three pointer with two seconds on the clock to allow Erskine to tie the game and force the game into overtime.

Tristen Berry kicked off the overtime period with a floating jump shot to put the Warriors on top 55-53.  Erskine countered with a layup by Shanece Mitchell to put Erskine within one.  A foul allowed Ianna Odulaja to take free throws, sinking one to tie the game up.  The Warriors countered as Caroline Reese passed the ball up to Shelby Glance who stepped beyond the arc and fired off a three point shot to give the Warriors the advantage once again.  The Warriors went on to win the game in a 62-58 final score.
