Coach Davis says...

"Great win for our team tonight.  We persevered for our first conference victory and that says a lot about this group.  North Greenville did a good job of speeding us up and we will grow from it.  Winning is hard and how we practice and develop is important for this team."

How It Happened

The Warriors struck early in the debate against the Crusaders of North Greenville as Brittany Mack sunk a ball from beyond the arc to give Southern Wesleyan a 3-0 lead.  They extended their lead to 5-0 on a jump shot by Kayla Garrett moments later.  The Crusaders countered on a three by Haylee Luttrell and a jump shot by Morgan Vulpis to tie the game up at five points apiece.  North Greenville pushed ahead on a driving layup by Jayda Glass, but Tristen Berry countered with a layup of her own to tie the game up 7-7 with just over five minutes left.  Southern Wesleyan pushed ahead taking a four point lead on a jump shot by Nakia Hooks.  North Greenville countered, but Southern Wesleyan led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter.

North Greenville cut Southern Wesleyan's lead to three with a driving layup by Tolisha Walker to start the second quarter.  However, a jump shot by Lonesha Lee allowed the Warriors to maintain a one point advantage with just over eight minutes left.  Brittany Mack sunk a jump shot to extend the Warriors lead, and then Mack passed the ball over to Tristen Berry who put it in from beyond the arc to put Southern Wesleyan on top 23-17 with just under seven minutes left.  North Greenville would not go down quietly as they chipped away at Southern Wesleyan's lead and then tied the game on a three pointer by Abi Oates.  The Warriors would not relent though as Berry drove to the net and laid the ball up to put the Warriors back on top 29-28.  Southern Wesleyan continued to push ahead as a three and free throws by Brooke Henricks put the Warriors ahead 37-33 at the half.

The Warriors took the first points of the third quarter on a jump shot in the paint by Kayla Garrett.  North Greenville countered with a jump shot by Tolisha Walker.  However, baskets by Garrett and Shelby Glance allowed Southern Wesleyan to maintain a three point lead with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter.  The Crusaders would not go down easily as Tabitha Littlefield made a jump shot in the paint to give them a 46-45 point lead.  However, the Warriors regained the lead seconds later on a jump shot by Brooke Henricks.  Free throws by Henricks put the Warriors on top by ten with under a minute left in the third quarter.

North Greenville challenged in the fourth as Jykya Bell made a jump shot to kick off the final quarter of play.  However, Tristen Berry sunk the ball into the net from beyond the arc to put the Warriors lead at 61-52.  The Crusaders continued to challenge, but jump shots by Brooke Henricks and Kayla Garrett allowed the Warriors to maintain their nine point advantage with just over six minutes left to play.  Southern Wesleyan would not let up as jump shots by Shelby Glance and Lonesha Lee put them on top 69-56.  North Greenville challenged back, but Southern Wesleyan would not let up as Brittany Mack raced down the court on a fast break with thirty seconds left to put the Warriors ahead by eleven.  The Warriors went on to pick up their first win in a 78-68 final.
