Due West, SC – Southern Wesleyan challenged the Erskine Flying Fleet on Tuesday evening, but fell in a 3-0 final score.
The Warriors recorded a .270 hitting percentage in the loss to the Flying Fleet. Southern Wesleyan had 40 kills with
Ashlyn Holford leading the team with 16. Holford was followed by
Amber Bass with 13 kills.
Ashley Sexton had 36 assists. Southern Wesleyan recorded six blocks with Holford recording three and Sexton and
Riley Young following with two.
Jesse Soles led the team with 14 digs with Bass following with 10.

How It Happened
Set One
The Flying Fleet took the first point of the match, but a kill by
Ashlyn Holford allowed the Warriors to tie it up 1-1. Erskine took the lead on kills by Eve Donald and Meredith Hollinger. Southern Wesleyan countered with an assisted block by
Amber Bass and
Riley Young. The Warriors stayed within one of the Flying Fleet on kills by Bass and Holford.
Tiyonnah Brown put down a kill off a pass from
Ashley Sexton to put the Warriors within two. Erskine pushed ahead, but kills by
Emily Ellis and Holford put the Warriors down 20-23. The Flying Fleet went on to win the first set 25-21.
Set Two
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second set with a kill by
Ashlyn Holford. They extended their lead to 2-0 on a block by
Emily Ellis. Erskine countered with a kill by Katy Torgerson to come to 2-1 behind Southern Wesleyan. The Warriors continued to push ahead with kills by
Amber Bass and
Riley Young. Kills by Ellis and Holford put the Warriors on top 9-4. Erskine challenged, but kills by Bass and Ellis kept the Warriors on top 15-13. Despite the early lead, the Flying Fleet fought back to pass the Warriors and take the second set 25-23.
Set Three
Erskine took the first point on a kill by Kaile Tuisamatatele, but blocks by
Ashley Sexton and
Ashlyn Holford allowed Southern Wesleyan to tie the third set up 1-1. The Warriors kept up the fight as a kill by
Emily Ellis put the Warriors ahead 3-1. The Fleet push ahead to take the lead on kills by Makenzie Kinne. However, the Warriors would not go down easily as
Amber Bass killed the ball to put Southern Wesleyan down 8-13. A kill by
Ashlyn Holford put the Warriors down 14-18. Southern Wesleyan continued to fight as kills by Holford and
Emily Ellis put them down 19-15. Despite late kills by Bass, the Flying Fleet took the final set 25-20.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on November 5 as they host the Chowan Hawks for senior night at 7 p.m. They will remain at home on November 6 to host the Barton Bulldogs at 2 p.m. The Warriors will then wrap up the regular season on the road as they travel to Franklin Springs, GA on November 10 to take on the Emmanuel Lions at 7 p.m.
