Augusta, GA – Southern Wesleyan unable to walk away with victory after early lead against Georgia College as Bobcats take a 68-63 point victory.
The Warriors shot 35.8% from the field in the loss to the Bobcats.
Nakia Hooks led the team with 11 points. Hooks was followed by
Lonesha Lee and
Allie Newberry with 10 points each. The Warriors had nine assists with
Cambria Parker, Hooks, and Newberry each having two.
Southern Wesleyan had 37 rebounds in the afternoon game.
Nakia Hooks led the team with seven while
Shelby Glance had six. Glance had the lone block of the afternoon for Southern Wesleyan.
Caroline Reese led the team with two of the five steals.

How It Happened
The Bobcats took the first points off a layup by Jada Warren, but the Warriors countered with a layup by
Nakia Hooks to tie it back up at two points each. Georgia College kept taking the lead, but Southern Wesleyan countered as
Brooke Henricks made baskets to tie the game back up 6-6. A layup by Henricks off a pass from
Tristen Berry allowed the Warriors to take a 10-8 point lead. They pushed further ahead off a three pointer by Berry. The Bobcats countered, but a three pointer by
Lonesha Lee put Southern Wesleyan's lead to 16-10.
Allie Newberry's basket allowed the Warriors to push ahead to take a nine-point lead with just over three minutes left in the first quarter. A late three by Newberry allowed the Warriors to lead 27-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Georgia College kicked off the second quarter with a jump shot by Cassidy Markle. The Bobcats continued to chip away, but
Lonesha Lee made a jump shot to keep the Warriors ahead 29-22. Georgia would not let up with their attacks as Alexa Geary made a three point shot to come within three of Southern Wesleyan. However, the Warriors countered right back with a layup by
Allie Newberry and a three pointer by Lee to put them on top 35-27. A jump shot by
Cambria Parker put the Warriors on top by ten minutes with just over a minute left to play. The Warriors went on to lead 41-29 at the half.
The Bobcats sunk a three pointer by Alexis Figures and a layup by Harper Vick to put them down 41-34. A three pointer by
Nakia Hooks allowed the Warriors to get back on top by 11 points. Georgia battled back, but Hooks laid the ball back up to give the Warriors back a 10-point lead.
Allie Newberry got the ball to
Lonesha Lee who laid the ball up to give the Warriors an 11-point lead with just over four minutes left. The Bobcats countered with a jump shot by Ashyia Willis to trail the Warriors 51-43.
Tristen Berry kicked off the final quarter with a layup to extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to 53-43. The Bobcats countered with a jump shot by Cassidy Markle, but Kayla Garret laid the ball up to push the Warriors ahead 55-48. The Bobcats would not go down quietly as Willis and Alexa Geary made baskets to put them within two of the Warriors.
Allie Newberry sunk a jump shot to put the Warriors up 57-55, but a jump shot by Cierra Foster allowed the Bobcats to tie the game up with just over four minutes left to play. The Bobcats fought ahead to take the lead on free throws by Harper Vick. Despite a last second three pointer by
Shelby Glance, the Warriors fell to the Bobcats 68-63.
What's Next
The Warriors will host their home opener on November 16 as they welcome the University of Tampa to Central, SC for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Southern Wesleyan will take on Wofford in exhibition play on November 19 in Spartanburg, SC. They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on November 23 to host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 5:30 p.m. for their Conference Carolinas opener.
