Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped a four set match to the Erskine Flying Fleet on Tuesday evening in a 3-1 final score.
The Warriors collected 27 kills during the match with
Ashlyn Holford leading the team with nine. Of the 25 assists,
Kali Letcher had 24 with
Jarena Byers collecting the other. Southern Wesleyan had four aces with
Emily Ellis collecting two of them. Holford led the team with five blocks while both
Amber Bass and
Riley Young had four.

How It Happened
Set One
Erskine took an early lead in the first set on kills by Meredith Hollinger, before a kill by
Jesse Soles allowed the Warriors to come behind 2-5. The Flying Fleet remained on the offensive as they distanced themselves from the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan challenged with kills by
Ashlyn Holford and Soles, but Erskine continued to push ahead to win the first set 25-12.
Set Two
The Flying Fleet took the first points of the second set on kills by Meredith Hollinger and an ace by Megan Thees before
Amber Bass put down a kill to allow the Warriors to get on the board. Erskine continued to push ahead with kills by Kaile Tuisamatatele and an ace by Katy Torgerson. Despite kills by
Ashlyn Holford, Erskine went on to win the second set 25-16.
Set Three
Erskine took the first point on a kill by Kaile Tuisamatatele, but Southern Wesleyan countered as
Emily Ellis put down a kill of her own to tie the third set up. The Flying Fleet attempted to soar around, but blocks by
Amber Bass and
Riley Young stopped them and allowed the Warriors to take the lead. Southern Wesleyan did not let up as both Bass and Young killed the ball. However, the Flying Fleet continued to persist to regain the lead. Service aces by
Emily Ellis allowed the Warriors to come within striking distance of the Fleet. Trailing the Fleet, Southern Wesleyan stepped up the pressure as
Ashlyn Holford and
Emily Ellis laid down kills and propelled the Warriors past the Flying Fleet to claim a 25-22 third set victory.
Set Four
Erskine took a 3-0 lead in the final set on kills by Kaile Tuisamatatele and an ace by Megan Thees before a setting error allowed the Warriors to get on the board.
Amber Bass killed the ball to put Southern Wesleyan within one point of Erskine. The Flying Fleet continued to push ahead, but the Warriors were not deterred as
Amber Bass and
Ashlyn Holford blocked to ball. . Despite kills by Holford,
Emily Ellis and Bass, the Flying Fleet went on to win the final set 25-16.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Mount Olive, NC on October 8 to take on the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive at 6 p.m. They will remain on the road on October 9 as they travel to Pembroke, NC to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves at 2 p.m. The Warriors will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on October 13 to host the Emmanuel College Lions at 7 p.m.
