How It Happened

Belmont Abbey charged out of the gate with a shot by Corrine Shovlain, but Samantha Benner remained composed in the net to save the attack.  Southern Wesleyan countered minutes later with an attack of their own off the foot of Cayla Hughes, but the Crusaders' goalkeeper Lauryn Harding would not let it reach the back of the net.  Despite more shots by Hughes and Joy Namyst, the Crusaders would not let the Warriors take the lead as the game remained tied 0-0 at half.

The Crusaders kept up their intensity in the second half as Mia Muckenthaler and Logan Parry both sent shots toward the goal, but Samantha Benner stayed strong to save every attack that they threw her way.  Madi Wurst got around the defense and fired a shot toward the net, but Harding saved the ball to keep the game tied and force the game into overtime.

The Warriors struck hard in the first overtime period as both Cayla Hughes and Bryanna Pickens took shots on the goal.  However, the Belmont Abbey defense and goalkeeper Lauryn Harding continued to prevent the Warriors' attacks from paying off.  The Crusaders countered with attacks by Goose Andrews, but Samantha Benner and the Warriors defense blocked every attack thrown their way to force the game into a second overtime.

The Warriors took the first shot in the second overtime as Cayla Hughes broke away from the defense, but her attack was thwarted inside of the box.  The Crusaders countered seconds later as Goose Andrews scored to allow Belmont Abbey to win 1-0.
