Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey on Wednesday evening in a 3-0 final score.
The Warriors collected 18 kills in the loss.  
Amber Bass led the team with eight kills with both 
Ashlyn Holford and 
Emily Ellis following with four.  Of the 15 assists, 
Kali Letcher and 
Ashley Sexton led the team with six apiece.  Southern Wesleyan had four blocks with Holford being involved in three.  
Jesse Soles had 11 of the 33 digs.

How It Happened
Set One
The Crusaders took the first point of the first set, but an attack error allowed the Warriors to tie it up.  Belmont Abbey pushed ahead on kills by Lauren Hamilton, Paige Rawlins and Kate Youmans to give them an 8-5 point advantage.  Southern Wesleyan fought back as 
Ashlyn Holford and 
Emily Ellis had kills to allow the Warriors to tie the game up 10-10.  The Warriors and Crusaders fought back and fourth, exchanging the lead several times before kills by Ellis and an ace by 
Ashley Sexton put the Warriors on top 21-18.  However, Belmont Abbey would not be discouraged as three consecutive aces by Maya Simmons and kills by Jenna McCullough allowed the Crusaders to take the first set 25-21.
 
Set Two
The Warriors kicked off the second set with a kill by 
Amber Bass to give Southern Wesleyan the early lead, but the Crusaders countered with kills by Jenna McCullough and Cameron Young to give Belmont Abbey the lead.  Southern Wesleyan kept up the fight as a kill by 
Riley Young allowed the Warriors to come within one point.  Belmont Abbey pushed onward, extending their lead to eight on aces by Mia Samaha.  Despite late blocks by 
Ashlyn Holford and 
Kali Letcher, the Crusaders won the second set in a 25-11 final.
 
Set Three
The Crusaders took the first points of the final set on an ace by Mia Samaha and kill by Paige Rawlins.  A kill by 
Amber Bass put the Warriors within three of the Crusaders.  Belmont Abbey continued to push ahead, taking an 11 point lead on a kill by McCullough.  Southern Wesleyan countered to come to 20-11 behind Belmont Abbey on a kill by 
Ashlyn Holford.  Despite a late kill by 
Emily Ellis, the Warriors dropped the final set to the Crusaders in a 25-12 final.
 
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on October 22 as they travel to Tigerville, SC to take on the North Greenville Crusaders for a 7 p.m. start.  The Warriors will return to Historic Tysinger on October 23 to host the King Tornado at 2 p.m.  They will then travel on October 28 to take on the Converse Valkyries and on November 2 to take one the Erskine Flying Fleet.
