Bristol, TN – Southern Wesleyan fell to the King Tornado on Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 final score.
The Warriors collected 16 kills in the loss to the Tornado with
Emily Ellis leading the team with five. She was followed by
Riley Young with four, and
Jesse Soles and
Amber Bass with three. Of Southern Wesleyan's 16 assists,
Ashley Sexton led the team with 15. Both Sexton and
Jarena Byers had aces. The Warriors had three blocks during the game. Southern Wesleyan recorded 43 digs with Sexton, Byers and
Kristina Pino each recording seven.

How It Happened
Set One
King took an early lead on kills by Brittney Ramsey and Julie Ward. A kill by
Jesse Soles allowed the Warriors to come to 2-3 behind the Tornado. Kills by
Riley Young and
Emily Ellis put Southern Wesleyan down two points to King and made the score 4-6. The Tornado continued to challenge the Warrior defense as Jersey Wines delivered two service aces to put King ahead 12-6. Despite kills by Ellis and a service ace by
Jarena Byers, the Tornado took the first set 25-15.
Set Two
Southern Wesleyan took the first point of the second set on a kill by
Amber Bass, however King countered with an assisted block by Zephanie Snyder and Brittney Ramsey to tie the set up 1-1. Julie Ward put in a kill to keep the Tornado on top 5-1. Despite trailing the Tornado, the Warriors continued to push as
Ashley Sexton set the ball for
Emily Ellis who laid the ball down perfectly for a kill to put the Warriors down 5-15. A kill by
Amber Bass put the Warriors down 6-19.
Jesse Soles delivered a cross court kill to put the Warriors within twelve of the Tornado. A set of assisted blocks by Ellis and
Riley Young allowed the Warriors to come within seven of the Tornado and make the score 16-23. The Warriors kept up the intensity as Young laid down a kill for Southern Wesleyan. However, the Tornado took the second set 25-19.
Set Three
The Warriors kicked off the third set with an assisted block by
Jesse Soles and
Emily Ellis to give Southern Wesleyan a 1-0 lead. An ace by
Ashley Sexton allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to 2-0, but a kill by Julie Ward allowed the Tornado to counter and put King on the board. The Tornado continued to distance themselves from the Warriors. A kill by
Emily Ellis allowed the Warriors to come to 6-20 behind the Tornado. The Tornado went on to win the final set 25-9.
What's Next
The Warriors will return home on October 5 as they host the Erskine Flying Fleet in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium at 7 p.m. They will then enter a two game weekend road trip on October 8-9. On the 8
th, the Warriors will travel to Mount Olive, NC to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 6 p.m. They will then take on the UNC Pembroke Braves in Pembroke, NC on October 9 at 2 p.m. Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on October 13 to host the Emmanuel Lions at 7 p.m.
