How It Happened
Emmanuel challenged the Warriors defense early as both Viki Lederer and Moriah Logue took shots, but both attacks went right to keep the Lions from taking the lead. Southern Wesleyan countered as
Madi Wurst collected the ball and sent it toward the back of the net, but Olivia Weider prevented Wurst's attack from paying out. The Warriors remained on the offensive, but both shots on goal by
Joy Namyst and
Grace Williams were saved to keep the game tied 0-0 at the half.
The Warriors kept up the attack in the second half as
Heily Hernandez attempted to get the ball pasted Weider, but the Lions goalkeeper stayed strong. Emmanuel countered with a shot by Moriah Logue, but
Taylor Hanzel and Southern Wesleyan's defense stayed strong to keep the Lions from taking the lead. Each team continued to make shots on the goal, but neither defenses would back down as every attack was deterred. The Lions would not let up though as they scored twice in five minutes to put them ahead of the Warriors. However, a foul right outside the box allowed the Warriors to take a free kick.
Madi Wurst took the free kick and sent it into the box.
Natalie Thompson collected Wurst's kick and passed it to
Maria Ramos who put it into the low left corner of the net to put the Warriors on the board. However, the Lions would not let the Warriors score a second time as they won the game in a 2-1 final score.
