How It Happened

Chowan attacked early as Christina Flores and Sabrina Henderson took shots, however the Warriors defense and Taylor Hanzel collected each attack to keep the Hawks off the board.  However, the Hawks continued to push as Michelle Maksimovic passed the ball to Carolina Lucci who put it into the back of the net to give Chowan a 1-0 advantage.  Southern Wesleyan countered with attacks of their own, but Heily Hernandez and Joy Namyst's shots both went wide left.  The Hawks scored twice off the foot of Sabrina Henderson to extend their lead to 3-0 at the half.

The Hawks remained on the offensive in the second half as Carolina Lucci scored twenty-eight seconds in to extend Chowan's lead to 4-0.  The Warriors countered with shots on goal by Ashley Allen and Joy Namyst, but Allison Traub stayed strong in the net to keep Southern Wesleyan off the board.  Lucci struck again to score her third goal of the game to extend their lead to 5-0.  Southern Wesleyan did not let up as Madi Wurst struck two times in a row, but goalkeeper Kirsten Petersen saved the ball.  The Warriors kept up the pace as Cayla Hughes passed the ball over to Joy Namyst who put it into the net to put the Warriors down 5-1.  With four minutes left in the second half, Jenny Arenas took a corner kick and sent it into the box where Makala Latsch collected it and put it into the net.  However, the Warriors fell to the Hawks in a 5-2 final.
