Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday evening in a 3-0 final score.
The Warriors recorded 22 kills in the loss with
Amber Bass leading the team with eight. Bass was followed by
Ashlyn Holford with six.
Ashley Sexton led the team with 16 of the 21 assists. Both Holford and
Emily Ellis had aces.
Jesse Soles recorded 14 of the 39 digs in the loss. Holford was a part of all four of the Warriors blocks.

How It Happened
Set One
The Lions charged out of the gates, but a kill by
Amber Bass allowed the Warriors to cut Emmanuel's lead in half. Emmanuel kept up the intensity as they deflected Southern Wesleyan's attacks to extend their lead. Southern Wesleyan kept fighting as
Riley Young and
Ashlyn Holford laid down kills to put the Warriors within three points of Emmanuel. The Lions continued to distance themselves with a kill by Aleksandra Hamuda and and ace by Taylor Roberts. Despite kills by Bass and Holford, the Lions won the first set 25-11.
Set Two
Emmanuel took a 5-0 lead before a kill by
Amber Bass put Southern Wesleyan on the board in the second set. The Lions continued their attacks with blocks by Gabrielle McGlamery and Taylor Reynolds, but the Warriors countered with kills by
Jesse Soles and
Ashlyn Holford. A block by Holford allowed the Warriors to stay within eight of the Lions. However, kills by Gabi Reagan and Mia Cotton allowed the Lions to extend their lead to ten points. The Lions went on to win the second set 25-14.
Set Three
The Warriors went on a six point run to start off the third set with kills by
Amber Bass and
Riley Young, before a kill by Mia Cotton put the Lions on the board. Emmanuel countered with an ace by Isabella Appling to put them within two, but a kill by Bass allowed Southern Wesleyan to take a three point lead. Southern Wesleyan continued to push ahead with kills by Bass and
Emily Ellis, and an assisted block by
Ashlyn Holford and
Ashley Sexton. The Lions fought back as they tied the set up on a service ace by Lily Guiterrez, however a kill by
Amber Bass put the Warriors back on top 18-17. Despite kills by Ellis and Holford, Emmanuel took the final set in a 25-21 final.
What's Next
The Warriors will remain at home on October 15 as they welcome the Francis Marion Patriots to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium for a 6 p.m. start. They will then host the Lees-McRae Bobcats on October 16 at 2 p.m. The Warriors will then travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on October 20 at 7 p.m.
