How It Happened
Set One
Francis Marion went on an 11 point run before an attack error allowed Southern Wesleyan to get on the board. A kill by
Amber Bass put the Warriors down 12-2 to the Patriots. Francis Marion continued to distance themselves, but kills by
Ashlyn Holford allowed the Warriors to come behind them 17-6. Despite kills by
Emily Ellis and an ace by
Jarena Byers, the Warriors dropped the first set 25-14.
Set Two
The Patriots charged out of the gate in the second set, taking a 3-0 lead on a kill by Lily Walton. However, the Warriors picked up the intensity with kills by
Riley Young,
Amber Bass and
Ashlyn Holford to come to 7-4 behind Francis Marion. The Warriors continued to press forward as a kill by
Tiyonnah Brown allowed Southern Wesleyan to tie the second set up. Southern Wesleyan countered every attack Francis Marion threw at them, taking a 10-9 point lead on an assisted block by Young and Brown. The Patriots regained the lead on kills by Walton and Lexi Albright. The Warriors countered with kills by Bass and Holford, but the Patriots maintained the advantage. Despite a block by Young and a kill by Bass, the Warriors dropped the second set 25-19.
Set Three
The Warriors took the first point of the third set on a service error, but a kill by Lily Walton allowed the Patriots to tie it up. Despite trailing the Patriots, the Warriors continued to fight with a block by
Amber Bass. Francis Marion distanced themselves from Southern Wesleyan with kills by Lexi Albright. The Warriors cut into the Patriots lead with kills by
Riley Young and
Ashlyn Holford, however Francis Marion went on to win the final set 25-12 to take the match.

Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on October 16 as they welcome the Lees-McRae Bobcats to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium at 2 p.m. They will then travel to Belmont, NC on October 20 to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 7 p.m. The Warriors will remain on the road on October 22 as they travel to Tigerville, SC to take on the North Greenville Crusaders at 7.
