Warriors Drop Game One of King Weekend Series

Bristol, TN – Southern Wesleyan dropped game one of the weekend series against the King Tornado in a 93-41 final on Friday evening.
 
Brooke Henricks led the Warriors with 12 points in the loss.  She was followed by Sasha Schoenborn with 11 points and Amy Soumare with eight.  Tristen Berry recorded two of the five assists during the game.  Soumare produced two blocks and led the team with 11 rebounds.  Soumare had four of the five steals during the game.

How It Happened
 
The Tornado jumped out early as Ryleigh Fritz sunk a three point basket, and then extended their lead to 6-0 on a 3-pointer by Ali Golden.  Brooke Henricks put the Warriors on the board with two free throw shots.  Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away as Sasha Schoenborn made a jump shot for the Warriors to put them down 5-9.  Despite free throws by Amy Soumare, the Tornado continued to distance themselves from the Warriors.
 
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second quarter as Soumare sunk a jump shot to come to 9-26 behind the Tornado.  King extended their lead with a couple jump shots to allow them to take 31-9 point advantage over the visiting Warriors.  Despite last second free throw baskets by Treasure Lone, the Torando led 51-11 at halftime.
 
The Warriors charged out of the gate in the third quarter as Henricks sunk a three pointer off a pass from Caroline Reese.  Free throws by Soumare and a jump shot by Halee Morrison allowed the Warriors to come to 21-61 behind King.  Despite several more baskets by the Tornado, the Warriors continued to put up a fight as Schoenborn made a jump shot.
 
Caroline Reese kicked off the final quarter of play for the Warriors with a three pointer to put Southern Wesleyan down 26-74.  Soumare followed Reese with a jump shot, but the Tornado countered with a jump shot by Beth Clark.  Clark made a three to give the Tornado an 84-31 point advantage, but Henricks countered with a three pointer for the Warriors.  Despite two last minute baskets by Schoenborn, the Warriors fell 93-41 to the Tornado.
 
 
 
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain in Bristol, TN to take on the King Tornado once again on January 23 at 2 p.m.  They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 27 to host Bluefield State College in non-conference action at 6 p.m.
