Coach Quarandillo says…
"We scored a couple nice goals and we had a few good chances, however making the mistakes we made today against a team like that will cost you. We will take what we learned today and try to fix our mistakes going forward. Still proud of the guys for not giving up."
How It Happened
Belmont Abbey attacked early as Ryan Cowie and Kenz Buteau attacked the net, but Will Hughes got between them and the goal to save the ball. Hughes continued to snag the ball away from the Crusaders to keep them off the board. Southern Wesleyan countered Belmont Abbey's attack with an attack of their own. Grant Kiker took the ball down the field and put it in the net to allow the Warriors to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Warriors did not hold onto the lead for long as Mikey Puskar put the ball in the net to tie the game and then goals by Albin Baathe and Puskar allowed the Crusaders to take a 3-1 goal advantage over Southern Wesleyan.
Southern Wesleyan would not be discouraged as Miguel Gallegos charged to the net, but his attack was thwarted by goal keeper Ben Knust. The Crusaders countered with attacks of their own by Gianni Serio. The Warriors were not done, however as a corner kick came in. The ball was deflected by the Crusaders to Jesus Sosa who drilled it to the back of the net to make the score 3-2. The Crusaders extended their lead to 4-2 on a shot by Kenz Buteau. Being down by two did not dampen the Warriors spirits as Ben Baker and Grant Kiker attacked the net, but neither attack paid off. Belmont Abbey went on to win the game 6-2.
