Coach Jernigan Says...
"I have to say we played some great singles today. Doubles not so much but the girls came out and won the first set in all six singles matches. We were not sharp in doubles and have to get better at being first to formation. So in between the doubles and singles marches I let them know that they can take 4 points off this team and they did just that. I have never been more proud of this team of young women then today. They could have folded up and easily lost this match but the fight I saw was incredible. They did it for one another and that is why they pulled out the first win ever against Erskine."
How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took one of the three doubles match-ups. Alexia Rodriguez and Elizabeth Mulkey defeated the Flying Fleet team of Morgan Keefe and Anna Smith in a final of 8-2. The set win put the Warriors down 2-1 in the match against the Fleet.
Aimee Dorley led the Warriors to their first win in singles action, defeating Marie Berghaus in a 6-3 and 6-4 final. Alexia Rodriguez followed with a 6-1 and 6-1 over Rachel Berkey. Kristi Cooper and Chyna Jones followed with wins in both of their singles matches. Cooper took her sets against Rebecca Weaver 6-4 and 6-4, and Chyna Jones defeated Anna Smith 6-1 and 6-0.
