Warriors Win First Match of the Season

Central, S.C. – Warriors won their first match of the season at home against the Brevard College Tornados on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 7-1.

Coach Jernigan Says…

"I am very proud of how our women's team today went out on court and took care of business. They had a tough close loss yesterday and to come back the next day and win in convincing fashion shows heart and courage. From the start we were the aggressors and they never let up."

 

How It Happened

The Warriors won two out of three of their doubles matches of the afternoon.  Brevard won the first set by default, but Southern Wesleyan came back strong winning the next two doubles matches of the afternoon.  Jennifer Ball and Chyna Jones took the first win in doubles with an 8-0 win over the Tornados.  They were followed by an 8-2 win by Aimee Dorley and Kristi Cooper to finish up the doubles matches.

Southern Wesleyan took all five of the singles matches of the afternoon.  Elizabeth Mulkey took the first set against the Tornados 6-0 and 6-0.  Mulkey was followed by Kristi Cooper (6-0, 6-0), Jennifer Ball (6-1, 6-1), Chyna Jones (8-0), and Aimee Dorley (6-0, 6-0) to give the Warriors a 7-1 overall victory against the Brevard Tornados.

 

What's Next

The Warriors will next travel to Lenoir-Rhyne on February 11 before returning home to take on Mars Hill on February 20.
