Warriors Fall In Spring Season Opener

Columbia, S.C. – Warriors fall in first match of the spring semester against the Benedict College Tigers on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors won one of their two matches in doubles action.  The Tigers won the first match by default.  Southern Wesleyan's Aimee Dorley and Kristi Cooper countered to win the second set of doubles 8-4.  However, the Tigers were not going to let the Warriors get away with a victory easily as they took the third set 8-5.

With the Tigers leading 2-1, singles matches begin.  Benedict and Southern Wesleyan split the singles matches with the Tigers taking three and the Warriors taking three.  Southern Wesleyan's Chyna Jones won the first match for the Warriors 6-1 and 6-1.  Jones was followed by Jennifer Ball to allow the Warriors to take a second singles victory 6-4 and 6-3, and then Kristi Cooper took a third set 6-0 and 6-0.  The Tigers took the last two sets, beating the Warriors 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-4.

The loss for the Warriors brings their record to 0-2 for the year.  Southern Wesleyan will open their spring season at home on February 4 at 1 p.m. against the Brevard College Tornados.  They will then travel to Lenoir-Rhyne on February 11.
