PENDLETON, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan's women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season as it defeated Benedict 5-4.
The Warriors (1-4) went 3-2 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles play.
In singles competition, Jennifer Ball defeated Esther Zelaya 7-5, 3-2 at the No. 2, Samantha Powell defeated Juliet Campbell 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5, and Elizabeth Mulkey won at the No. 5 due to a default by Benedict. Karla Flores defeated Aimee Dorley 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1, Daniella Rios defeated Chyna Jones 6-2, 3-6, and 7-6 at the No. 3, and Danyelle Copeland defeated Tadala Kandulu 6-2, 4-6, and 1-0 at the No. 4.
In doubles competiton, Powell/Ball defeated Rios/Campbell 9-8 at the No. 2 and Kandulu/Mulkey won at the No. 3 due to a default by Benedict. Zelaya/Flores defeated Dorley/Jones 8-4 at the No. 1.
Southern Wesleyan next plays their first Conference Carolinas match of the season as they host King tomorrow Feb. 20 at 1 p.m.
