Warriors Fall Against Anderson

Box Score

Darius Sharpe scores 26 in loss to Anderson University.

The Anderson University Trojans struck first in the contest, quickly taking a 4-0 lead after dunk by Chance Prandy.  Darius Sharpe sunk a 3-point jump shot to bring the Warriors to just a point behind the Trojans and making the score 4-3.  The Trojans lengthened their lead with continued shots to make the game 11-3, a lay-up by Jeremy Wert shortened the deficit to 5-11.  However, the back-to-back 3-point jump shots by Darius Sharpe brought the Warriors within ten points of the Trojans.  Shots by Justice McCullough, Darius Sharpe and Kevin Stamps made the game 20-24 Trojan lead.  By halftime, the Warriors had gained more ground, but the Trojans still led 34-32.

The Warriors came back from half-time and hit the ground running, scoring on a jump shot by Kevin Stamps to tie the game 34-34.  The Trojans took the lead right back with shots by Chance Prandy and Carlos Dotson. Southern Wesleyan held Anderson to within striking distance for much of the second half of the game, but after a 3-point jump shot by Maurice Howard the Trojans began to creep ahead.  A layup by Howard pulled the Anderson University Trojans to a 66-46 lead over the Warriors.  The Warriors were able to score several more times, but a late rally was not enough to gain victory over the Trojans as Anderson won 81-65.

"We had a six minute stretch in the second half where we couldn't score," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Charles Wimphrie.  He continued, "We had open looks but the shots didn't fall.  In close games we can't afford to have a dry spell.  The guys played well but remaining focused for forty minutes is something we have to work towards in future games."

Darius Sharpe led the team with 26 points and Jeremy Wert followed him with 13 points.  Justice McCullough led the team with 14 rebounds.  Tyus Gaines led the team in steals with 2, and Wert and Kevin Stamps each had a block in the loss.

The loss for the Warriors makes their record 1-5 and 0-1 in Conference Carolina action.  The Anderson University Trojans are now 3-3.  Southern Wesleyan University will next play on Thursday, December 1 at 7 p.m.  They will take on N.C. Central in an exhibition match.  The Warriors will return to Erskine College Flying Fleet on Saturday, December 3 at 4 p.m.
