Warriors Fall in First Conference Carolina Match

Box Score

Five players score double digits in loss to the Falcons of Pfeiffer University.  Darius Sharpe led the team in points with night.  He is followed by Justice McCullough (16), Tyus Gaines (14), Daryl Myers (13) and DJ Dobson (10).

The Falcons struck first in the match this evening.  The Warriors scored on a jump shot by Darius Sharpe in the eighteenth minute of play making the score 2-4 Falcons lead.  By the time the Warriors scored a third basket, the Falcons were leading the game 12-3.  Half way through the first half of play, DJ Dobson scored a layup for the Warriors to make the score 19-34 Falcons lead.  The Warriors rallied from there putting five points on the board to shorten the distance.  The rally was short lived as by the half the Falcons had lengthened their lead to 70-44.

The Warriors returned from the half-time break to score five points in less than thirty seconds of play and bringing them to 48-75.  However, it was not enough as Pfeiffer University lengthened their land by thirty-three points.  Despite a dunk by Justice McCullouh, the Warriors were not able to broach the deficit.  The Pfeiffer University Falcons win the match 123-85.

"We didn't come to play tonight and that's my fault," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Charles Wimphrie.  He continued, "We must make a commitment to defend because we can score with any team in the league.  I was disappointed in our defensive effort from start to finish.  Their press forced us into 29 turnovers which lead to several run outs and easy baskets."

Justice McCullough lead the team with 12 rebounds and Darius Sharpe led the team in steals.  McCullough, Tyus Gaines and Kevin Stamps all had one block in the game.

The loss for the Warriors makes Southern Wesleyan's record become 1-4 and 0-1 in Conference Carolina action.  The Pfeiffer University Falcons are now 4-0 and 1-0 in Conference Carolina play.  The Warriors will next travel to Anderson University on Monday, November 28.
