Warriors Win First Game of the Season

Southern Wesleyan University took an early lead thanks to a jump shot by DJ Dobson.  However, Brevard College tied the game up 5-5 within the first five minutes of play.  The Warriors pushed ahead to take a 13-9 lead with the help of free throws made by Terry House.  The Brevard Tornados pushed ahead on a jump shot by Stevie Williams, but the Warriors countered with a three point jump shot by Darius Sharpe to tie the game 16-16.  The game went back and forth as the Warriors and the Tornados battled it out.  At the end of the first half, the Warriors led the game 34-33.

Jeremy Wert helped the Warriors pull ahead in the second half bringing the score to 39-35.  They continued to rally to a 50-39 lead with a three point jump shot by Darius Sharpe.  The Tornados shorted the differential with a layup to bring the score to 63-52 Warrior lead.  Daryl Myers scored the winning free throws for the Warriors, giving them a final score of 75-61 over the Brevard College Tornados.

"I like the way we bounced back tonight," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Charles Wimphrie.  He continued, "We made some key defensive stops and we rebounded very well.  We also eliminated our mistakes on offense.  I was very happy with our effort tonight."

The win for the Warriors brings their record to 1-1 and 0-0 in Conference Carolina play.  The Brevard College Tornados to 0-2 for their 2016-2017 season.  The Warriors will travel to compete in the Newberry Classic next weekend.  They will take on Coker College on Friday, November 18 and then Newberry College on Saturday, November 19.
