NEWBERRY, S.C.‑ Southern Wesleyan's women's tennis team dropped its first match of the 2016 season as they fell 7-2 to Newberry.
The Warriors (0-1) went 2-4 in singles competition and 0-3 in doubles competition.
In singles play, Aimee Dorley lost to Elizabeth Williamson 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1, Jennifer Ball lost to Vanessa Ortiz 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, Chyna Jones lost to Vanessa Ortiz 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3, and Tadala Kandulu lost to Amanda Carrillo 8-4 at the No. 4. Samatha Powell defeated Veronika Viegas 8-7, 7-2 at the No. 5 and Elizabeth Mulkey defeated Sierra Whaley 8-1 at the No. 6.
In doubles play, Ortiz/Carrillo defeated Dorley/Jones 8-2 at the No. 1, Williamson/Lamers defeated Ball/Powell 8-3 at the No. 2, and Martinez/Avellan defeated Mulkey/Kandulu 8-4 at the No. 3.
Southern Wesleyan next hosts Anderson Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.
