SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan women's tennis fell to Converse College on Tuesday 9-0.
The Warriors dropped both doubles matches, but not before a Elizabeth Mulkey and Samantha Powell put up a strong fight at No. 1. The Warriors duo forced a tiebreak, but ultimately fell 9-8 (6-2) to Margaret Pridmore and Kaitlin Knight. Also in doubles action, Abbey Coker and Brooke Strickland lost to Alex Schlesener and Samantha Sheffield 8-3.
Powell also put up a fight at No. 1 singles, losing to Schlesener 6-3, 6-2. Kaycee Blackwell moved back up to No. 4 and took four games from Sheffield in the second set before falling 6-4. Sheffield also won the first set, 6-1.
Brooke Strickland slid down to No. 5 for the first time this season and took three games from Klaire Rouse in the first set but lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. Both Elizabeth Mulkey and Abbey Coker managed to win just one game in the straight sets defeat.
The Warriors will close out the season on Friday at Belmont Abbey after the Saturday match at Carson-Newman was cancelled. Friday's match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
