Women's Tennis Drops Conference Match Against Erskine

CLEMSON, S.C.  – A day after picking up their first win of the season Southern Wesleyan women's tennis dropped a 9-0 decision to Erskine on Saturday at Nettles Park.

The Warriors were shutout in doubles, losing at No. 1 8-1 as Samantha Powell and Elizabeth Mulkey took the loss against Mika Goyette and Mikaela Bennett. At No. 2 doubles the Flying Fleet won 8-0 as Sarah McDonald and Miranda Guthrie defeated Abbey Coker and Kaycee Blackwell. Erskine won No. 3 doubles by default.

Things were not much better for the Warriors in singles action as the team managed to win just five games in four matches. Mulkey saw the best result, falling 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to Goyette. Powell also managed to take a game at No. 1, losing 6-1, 6-0 to McDonald. Both Coker and Blackwell were blanked 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and No. 4. The Flying Fleet won No. 5 and No. 6 singles by default.

The Warriors return to the court in a week as they make up a snowed out contest at Lenoir-Rhyne on March 14 at 3 p.m. That match starts a six-game road swing. SWU won't return home until March 31.
