CLEMSON, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan women's tennis picked up their first win of the season on Friday afternoon, defeating conference rival Emmanuel 5-1 at Nettles Park.
The Warriors split the two doubles matches with the Lions before sweeping the four singles matches. Abbey Coker and Kaycee Blackwell picked up the doubles win at number two, 8-1, over Alyssa Austin and Sarah Wisneski. The win for Coker/Blackwell is the first of the season.
In singles action all four Warriors picked up their first wins of the season. Blackwell surrendered just one game in her 6-0, 6-1 win at number four over Wisneski. Coker also picked up a win at number three, defeating Austin 6-2, 6-1.
Samantha Powell also tallied a win, taking the top singles spot in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, over MAdalena Frausto. Elizabeth Mulkey dropped the first set but rallied to take down Abby Bradford for her first win of the season, 4-6, 6-0, 6-5.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday at Nettles Park as they host Erskine at 1:00 p.m.
