Baseball Swept By Pfeiffer in Saturday Double Dip

CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan dropped two games on Saturday to Pfeiffer in the finale of a conference series. The Falcons won 6-5 and 9-4 on Saturday after winning 13-8 on Friday.

The Warriors will be away from Connor Field for two weeks, first heading to Mars Hill on Wednesday in a return game after hosting the Lions to begin the season.

Game One
Both teams combined to hit five home runs in game one on Saturday as the Warriors were upended 6-5. SWU held early leads of 2-1 and 5-2 but the Falcons came back to score two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to earn the win and take the series.

The Warriors scored twice in the bottom of the second to grab a 2-1 lead after Pfeiffer's Cole McGraw hit a home run in the top of the inning. Julio Lara answered in the bottom of the inning with a homer of his own, a two-run shot to left center to put the Warriors up 2-1.

After the Falcons evened the score in the third, the Warriors put up three in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back doubles by Josh Shimp and Dan Williams put the Warriors up 3-2. Luke Hostetler followed with his first homer of the year to left field.

The Falcons answered in the fourth with a two-run shot by Dalton Lindley that pulled Pfeiffer to within one at 5-4. Izzy Perez put Pfeiffer on top in the fifth with a two-run shot of his own.

Hamilton Hartsell falls to 0-7 with the loss after allowing eight hits and six runs, five earned in five innings. The sophomore struck out five and walked one. Mike Batten struck out two in the a perfect two innings.

Craig Jacobelli picked up the win in relief for the Falcons to improve to 1-1. Jacobelli allowed just two hits in 3.1 innings.

Game Two
The Warriors fell behind 7-1 after the first three innings as the Falcons hit collected seven hits in the second and third innings combined. Zach Scudder hit a home run to lead off the second inning and start the scoring.

The Warriors got on the board in the third as Mike Hyman reached on an error and stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch. He scored again in the ninth on a wild pitch after a double earlier in the inning.

In the sixth inning it was Josh Shimp who hit a leadoff home run to left field, his first of the season. SWU was held to just eight hits, three coming off the bat of Hyman and two from Shimp.

Tyler Rio took the loss to fall to 0-6 on the year. Rio allowed seven runs on nine hits. He struck out three and walked five. Tyler Leguire improved to 1-1 with a seven inning start. Leguire allowed just six hits and three walks while giving up two runs, one earned. He struck out two.
