CENTRAL, S.C. – Kenny Holmes and Cameron Solomon combined to score 50 points and knocked down 10 3-pointers as Southern Wesleyan defeated Pfeiffer 85-76 on Wednesday evening.
Holmes and Solomon both came alive in the second half as they combined for 35 after halftime as the Warriors scored 53 after the break. The duo knocked down seven triples in the second half as they hit all 10 of the SWU threes in the game. Solomon finished with a game-high 29 as Holmes added 21 and a team-high five assists.
The Warriors led throughout the entire first half, pushing the lead to as much as 12 on a three by Cameron Solomon with 3:46 to play. SWU led by three at the half, 32-29 as the Falcons closed the half on a 9-0 run.
Pfeiffer's lone lead in the game came at 37-35, three minutes into the second half as the Falcons opened the half on an 8-3 run, a 17-3 run going back to the first half. Solomon responded with another three to put the Warriors back up 38-37 and after the Falcons scored on the next possession, Solomon hit another three to put the Warriors up 41-39.
Pfeiffer responded again to take another two point lead but was never able to stretch it past that point as the Warriors made too many shots in the second half. SWU connected on 59.3 percent in the second half and made 7 of 9 from long range.
Dwayne Bryant scored off an offensive rebound and converted the free throw to put the Warriors back on top for good at 54-53 with 9:49 to go. The Falcons hung around, cutting the lead to one on two occasions. The Warriors led 72-68 with just over two minutes play and outscored Pfeiffer 13-8 down the stretch including converting 9 of 11 at the free throw line.
Bryant recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Walker added 12 points and five rebounds for the Warriors.
SWU shot 47.5 percent from the floor in the game while Pfeiffer shot 42.4 percent. The big difference came from beyond the arc where the Warriors made 10 of 21 while the Falcons struggled, shooting 4 of 15.
The Warriors hit the road this weekend to take on Emmanuel on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Lions won the season's first meeting 87-66 on Jan. 17.
