CLEMSON, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan women's tennis started the 2015 season on Friday afternoon by hosting Newberry at Nettles Park.
Newberry came away with the shutout 9-0 victory as the Warriors started the match down 3-0 due to having only four players.
In singles action Kaycee Blackwell had the strongest showing for the Warriors at the number four spot. Blackwell was defeated by Sierra Whaley 6-3, 6-2. All four singles matches were decided in straight sets.
Newcomer Samantha Powell was defeated by Elizabeth Williamson at the top singles spot, 6-1, 6-2. Elizabeth Mulkey was also able to win three games at number two singles, falling to Tara Lamers 6-2, 6-1. Abbey Coker lost 6-1, 6-1 to Rebeca Martinez at the third spot.
In doubles action the Wolves won both matches by scores of 8-2 and 8-2.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday morning at Anderson at 11 a.m.
