GULF SHORES, Ala. – Southern Wesleyan kicked off their first and only NAIA Outdoor National Championship Meet on Thursday. The Warriors will compete in three events throughout the weekend.
UPDATE: On Friday it was the women's turn to take the track as Jess Maggio competed in the 100 meter hurdles and also took part in the 4x400 meter relay along with Lavornne Taylor, Olivia Bush and Logan Thiel. Maggio posted a time of 15.66 in the 100 hurdles, placing 31st while the relay team came in with a time of 3:59.12, three seconds off their season best time.
On Thursday, Jhante McMillan got things started in the 400 meter hurdles where he posted a personal record time of 53.84. That time was good enough for 9th, just .22 seconds away from making finals later in the meet. McMillan's time was more than half-a-second better than his season best time.
The Warriors have now closed out all competitions in all sports in the NAIA and the SSAC as the University will continue their transition to the NCAA II and Conference Carolinas over the summer.
