ROME, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan track and field had one of their best showings on Saturday despite nasty weather conditions at Shorter University.
The men's and women's teams combined for 16 top-8 finishes in the one-day meet. Jhante McMillan had the best individual placement, taking third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.11. He followed that up with a 10th place finish in the 100 meter days, turning in a 11.43 time.
The women's 4x100 relay team also placed third, coming in at 49.94. The women had strong showings in the 400 meter dash and the long and triple jumps. In the 400 Lavornne Taylor and Logan Thiel both placed in the top-10. Taylor took 6th with a time of 1:00.72 while Thiel placed 9th with a time of 1:01.32.
In the long and triple jumps it was the duo of Amber King and Zarian Irby who both placed in the top-10 in each event. King placed 5th in the triple jumps with a mark of 10.52 while Irby was just behind King in 6th place at 10.54. King also finished just ahead of Irby in the long jump, turning in a mark of 4.93 and taking 7th while Irby jumped 4.87 and placed 9th.
Keith Johnson followed up last week's first place finish in the 400 meters with a 4th place finish on Saturday, running a 50.09. He also was 14th in the 200 meter with a time of 23.28.
Olivia Bush placed 5th in the 400 hurdles after running a 1:09.62 and Jess Maggio turned in a 12.87 in the 100 meter dash to place 6th. Lavornne Taylor followed up her strong showing in the 400 with an 8th place finish in the 200 meter dash after running a time of 26.10.
Leeann Gibson placed 4th in the shot put, throwing a mark of 11.10 meters. In her first meet Michelle Anaya took 7th in the high jump with a best jump of 1.42 meters. Also in the field events were 6th and 7th place finishes for the men in the javelin throw. Chevy Shockley took 6th with a throw of 29.88 meters while Nick Shear was right behind him in 7th with a mark of 25.76.
The Warriors are back in action on Friday as they make the short trip to Wofford College in Spartanburg.
