BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – A pair of sixth-place finishes highlight day for the Southern Wesleyan track and field team at their first NCCAA National Indoor Meet on Friday night.
Amber King took sixth in the long jump after a 5.48 meters, her personal best. King qualified fifth after a prelim jump of 5.45 meters. The 4x200m team also placed sixth in the timed final with a time of 1:47.73. The team of Olivia Bush, Jess Maggio, Lavornne Taylor and Logan Thiel had yet to run this race in competition this year.
The women sit in 10th overall with six points, just two behind North Greenville. Bethel (Ind.) leads the competition by 24.5 points.
Other highlights from Friday were Jess Maggio and Olivia Bush qualifying for finals in the 60m hurdles with times of 9.27 for Maggio and 9.55 for Bush. Maggio's time was the sixth fastest and Bush's was tied for eighth. Maggio also qualified for finals in the 60m dash after posting a time of 8.12 which was the seventh fastest mark.
On the men's side Jhante McMillan will run in the 60m hurdle final after the ninth fastest mark in prelims with a time of 8.66. The men's distance medley relay was the only other men's event for SWU on the day with the team finishing 12th with a time of 11:13.26.
Plenty of events are on tap for Saturday including the 200m and 400m finals along with the 60m dash and 60m hurdle finals. The women will also compete in the 800m and the 4x400m relay while the men will see action in the 4x800m relay and the 3000m finals. Field events to look out for will be the women's triple jump and the women's shot put.
