Bench Propels Warriors Past Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. –Four players scored in double figures as the Warriors battled back for an 86-82 road win over Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday night. All three wins for the Warriors this year have been in conference play on the road.

Neither team was able to get the upper hand all night as the game saw 15 ties and 15 lead changes. The largest lead for both teams was just five points. Pfeiffer (2-5, 0-4 CC) closed the first half scoring the final five points to take a 43-41 lead into the break.

SWU (3-6, 3-1 CC) opened the second half with a pair of free throws from Cameron Solomon and a layup from Mike Lieberman to retake the lead at 45-43.

The game was tied 70-70 with under four minutes to play before Buster Walker's layup put the Warriors up 72-70. Just seconds later Pfeiffer's AJ Clark knocked down a triple to give the Falcons the one point edge.

Kenny Holmes followed with a three of his own for SWU and after a steal by Holmes, he found Cameron Solomon for a layup to put the Warriors up 77-73 with 2:35 to play. Holmes put the Warriors up five at 80-75 with just over two minutes left with his fifth three of the game.

The Falcons weren't done though as Clark hit another three on the next possession to cut the gap to two. The teams traded baskets over the next four possessions before Holmes sealed the victory with a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left. Pfeiffer missed a three and a layup on their next possession.

Holmes led all scorers with 21 points on 7 of 10 shooting. He also was 5 of 7 from beyond the arc and led the team with seven assists. Cameron Solomon scored 20 points, making all eight free throw attempts and 6 of 12 from the floor. Buster Walker finished with 15 points on 7 of 12 shooting.

Darius Sharpe came off the bench to score 18 points for the Warriors, knocking down 3 of 5 from downtown. Sharpe entered the game with just 20 points on the season and nearly matched that on Saturday. The sophomore was 7 of 13 from the floor in the contest in 18 minutes of action.

The Warriors shot 48 percent from the floor while the Falcons finished at 55 percent. The Warriors had the edge with 14 offensive rebounds and 13 second chance points to just eight second chance points for the Falcons. SWU also got 20 points off 16 Pfeiffer turnovers as the Warriors turned it over just eight times leading to 11 Pfeiffer points.

Thanks to Holmes and Sharpe the Warriors scored 41 points off the bench, 39 of which came from the two guards from Georgia. Dwayne Bryant led all players with nine rebounds and also scored four points.

Pfeiffer was led by Josh Calhoun's 18 points. AJ Clark finished with 17 points and five made threes. The Falcons knocked down seven treys in the contest and made 19 of 24 at the free throw line. They also out rebounded the Warriors 33-31.

SWU will have a week off before a return meeting with Newberry on Dec. 13 at Newberry. The Wolves hung 118 on the Warriors in their meeting on Nov. 28 in a 118-78 Newberry victory.
