BANNER ELK, N.C. – After dropping the first set the Southern Wesleyan volleyball team rebounded to remain unbeaten in conference play with another 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-21) victory, this time over Lees-McRae in Williams Gymnasium.
In the first set the Warriors (14-5, 5-0 CC) fell behind 17-13 after a 4-0 Bobcat run (8-6, 4-2 CC) broke open a 13-13 tie. SWU battled back to force a tie at 17-17 and after the Warriors took a 21-19 lead, Lees-McRae rallied to take six of the final seven points for the 25-22 win.
The Warriors bounced back to take the second and third sets relatively easy. In the second the Warriors limited LMC scored on their own serve just four times, including the first three points of the set, all attack errors from the Warriors.
SWU had three players in double figures with Cherilyn Ramsey leading the charge with 19 kills, her third straight match in double figures and 14th of the season. Ramsey hit .516 for the match as the posted a .267 offensive attack on the day including three sets over .289. Ramsey also notched her 7th double-double of the season with a season-high 18 digs.
Sarah Hughey and Jacinta Hoffpauir were also in double figures on the day as Hughey racked up 16 kills and a .306 attack percentage and Hoffpauir turned in 10 kills for her third straight match with 10 or more kills. Hughey leads the team with 16 double-digit kills matches including in each of the last nine. The redshirt-sophomore also is tied with Ramsey with seven double-doubles, breaking her streak at four after collecting just nine digs on Saturday.
Megan Widener had her second straight double-double and fifth of the year with 40 assists and 10 digs. A trio of players ended the match with nine digs, Hughey, Milica Stamenic and Tori Wanner.
The Warriors head home for an extended time, playing the next five at Historic Tysinger beginning with the first installment of the Lil' Bronze Peach on Friday against Emmanuel at 7 p.m.
